Birthday Barbecue

We took a family road trip over to Smokin' F BBQ & Feedlot in Philadelphia, TN. If you want to know if driving over 150 miles and nearly three hours one-way is worth it—-the answer is an easy YES!

We were first introduced to the owners, Brooke and Jay Frankovich, through our mutual friend Kristi Bracewell Photography, Texas. We have been planning to make a trip over there ever since. We can tell you, this is more than a place to get great food.

We arrived not long after the live music started. We grabbed the farthest spot in the gravel lot closest to the road as the rest of the lot was already packed. We could hear the music and we could smell the food as we made our way past the gift shop and the corn hole and into the restaurant. The line zig-zagged through the large space as folks eagerly placed their orders, excited to get in before anything was sold out for the night. We were greeted by Brooke, stationed at the counter with the Blue Bell, as she welcomed folks in with a “Hey y’all!” and a smile.

Sitting at the picnic tables under the large fans, listening to the music, surrounded by folks enjoying the food, time, and evening with their families, we could feel how special this place really is. We could feel the care and dedication this family has put into their business and making it a place where they could serve others.

Take it from us, if you find yourself on I-75 between Chattanooga and Knoxville, be sure to plan your trip so you are there on a Friday or Saturday night. Get off the beaten path and treat yourself to the best barbecue you will find anywhere. Find Jay and Brooke and tell them we said hi. And then take your time—time with your family, time to slow down, time to enjoy. It’s always worth it!

Oh, and get the brisket—definitely get the brisket!
