Fall Haul Out

We have been on a decluttering journey for the past six years. What started out as me wanting a new way to keep the house clean led to us not only decluttering our home but also decluttering our lives.

In 2016 we read the book, “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” after a friend had given it to Brandon a couple of years earlier. My goal at the time was to find a way to clean the house and to keep it clean. What we found was so much more.

At the time, we followed the methods in the book, and we made our way through mountains of clothes, stockpiles of books and toys, and we unearthed years of stored papers and mementos. We gathered garbage bag after garbage bag of items to give away, to throw away, and to donate. And as the bags were piled next to the front door to be hauled away, we couldn’t help but wonder, what was all of that stuff? What did it cost to buy? What did it cost to keep?

Over the years, as one purge led to the next, we have learned it costs both time and money to accumulate and store all of this stuff. We realized we would rather spend our time and our money doing things we enjoy rather than having stuff we store.

Today, we have far less than we once had but still more than we want. We have found ways to easily take stock of what we have and to part with what we no longer need.

We are excited to once again make a sweep through our home and to get rid of what no longer serves us. We are happy to share what we have learned by embarking on this next journey with you!
