Why “Unbinded?”
Why “unbinded?”
From the very beginning, we had an image of undoing all that we had been doing, untethering ourselves from the things that were holding us down. We were ready to let go of societal norms and expectations and embrace a life of freedom where we live by our own rules aligned to our values. This vision for undoing the things that bind or constrain us led us to the term Unbinded.
Yes, “unbinded” is a made up word. When we embarked on this journey, we felt we were doing something we had not seen anyone around us doing. We believe doing something unheard of warrants a word not yet heard of.
Of course, we could have used “unbound,” and trust us, it crossed our minds. But to us, unbound felt like something that could be completed, like a place you would arrive, a final destination.
For us, Unbinded brings to mind the image of knots: tiny knots and big knots all wrapped around our hearts keeping us stuck in place. We have found undoing one knot allows us to go for the next one and the next. The gradual undoing of tiny knots and big knots gives us the freedom and flexibility to go after what we want most out of life.
We know there will always be distractions, stressors, and our own fears getting in the way. We know the path we are on is lifelong. We will always have to check in with ourselves, we will always have to test what we are doing against our values, we will always have to let go of the old to make way for the new. Unbinded feels more like a journey and less like a destination.
In the end, we realize Unbinded is simply a wrapper for the message, and we feel our message is clear. We believe we are all called to a life of passion, purpose, and peace where we live out our values and live life to its fullest.
