Simpler Life

The middle of the day on a Friday, and I’m spending it with the kids.

There was a point in time just a few years ago, I could only dream of this life. I knew living the rat race day in and day out was not the life God was calling me to lead. I knew I wanted out, but I didn’t know how.

Thanks to one of the most amazing life coaches on this planet, ironically coupled with the unexpected pause button that the pandemic gave us, Opal and I were able to turn those dreams into reality. We got really clear on our values and imagined what a dream life would look like if we were to build it from the ground up. And then we gave ourselves permission to pursue it.

Shortly after our cross-country move to the mountains of North Carolina in pursuit of this simpler life, I made the life-changing decision to trade in my full time career for a very flexible, part time work week. Now I spend every Friday and most afternoons doing the one thing that is most important in life to me—being the father and husband I always dreamed of.

Today, I took Lucia and Maximilian to our favorite local thrift store for some tennis rackets they had been wanting all week. Then we spent the afternoon at our local tennis courts, so they could put them to good use. The day was perfect, but not as perfect as this Unbinded Life we now live!
