Yes!
I’ve known all weekend that Monday would be designated kid day. Opal and I facilitated a strategic retreat for a nonprofit society this past weekend, and I felt like every time the kids asked to do something or go somewhere last week, my standard response was, “I can’t. We have to get ready for this retreat. But next week will be different.”
I’ve been counting down to today for one reason and one reason only—to say yes. So, when I asked Max and Lucia what they wanted to do today, they conspired and came back with, “We want you to take us fishing!” So, fishing it was!
After buying a fishing license and reading ALL the many rules governing our local trout-filled waters, we headed out to the river with rods and tackle in hand. We didn’t catch a single thing but agreed we had a ton of fun! Well, Max did swear a fish got away with his bait and hook, even though it got caught on a rock and his line broke. But I’m letting him believe the better story to tell!
After fishing, they asked for ice cream, so “yes” it was! We got Blizzards on the way home, and, if you know the origin of my and Opal’s story, you know the role Blizzards played in it. I don’t know if I could’ve ever imagined our story would evolve quite as magical as it has, but how very heartwarming to have it play out this way!
