The Power of Vision
When I sought out a professional life coach two years ago, I felt stuck. While it may have seemed we had achieved the “American Dream,” I felt like I lived in a hamster wheel.
I would wake up before daylight and leave the house before any of the kids were awake for school. I felt as if each week looked the same. They were separated by weekends filled with me dreading the alarm clock on Monday.
We were gone and busy dark-thirty to dark-thirty. I felt like, as a family, we lived a life where we simply passed each other in the hallway. We were overcommitted and overspent, and so were our time and bank account.
Prior to hiring a life coach, I would tell Opal there is no way anyone could convince me this is the way God intended us to live our life.
I saw no way out. I knew the life we had built did not align to our values or honor our dreams, but I could not, for the life of me, find a way out. Then, in Spring 2020, all that changed.
Through coaching, I was able to conquer so many things. I was able to replace the doubt, fear, and hopelessness with a vision. A vision for not only what life could be but how to make it a reality. We put a stake in the ground and traded in the “American Dream” for our own dreams. We suspended the cultural norms and societal expectations and a widely accepted definition of success that had chained us to a former life.
In this new life, we both still work with coaches as we continue to pursue the life we feel God has called us to live. In this new life, we are fulfilling our dream of helping and serving others through coaching, as well. As Certified Professional Coaches, we lock arms with people as they question the things they are tolerating, as they grab hold of the life they’ve always wanted, and as they pursue the things they are called to do in this world.
Yes, it has taken time and effort to unbind from the life and the mindset we once held, but we have learned our dreams are most definitely worth it!
