Halloween House

We’re not only the Christmas house, but we’ve become the Halloween house, too!

Our Halloween traditions really started once we moved here. For years, our oldest daughter, Bela, would beg us to decorate. She’d remind us that Halloween is her favorite holiday and she would ask if we could go all out and have parties. She would explain how she looks forward to October the other 11 months out of the year. For years, we wanted to do what she was asking, but always seemed to come up with reasons not to or to only do something small.

But not here. Not now.

We have fully embraced our daughter’s vision and are having tons of fun with it!

We have flickering candle lights in every window, trees wrapped in purple lights and bushes covered in orange. Spider webs are draped across the porch and a large spider is placed to greet you. Ghosts in the trees sway with the breeze and the entire house glows purple. But our all-time favorite decoration is our skeletons—no bones about it!

These guys have been with us since we lived in the ‘burbs. We were excited this year to add a few more to the gang.

So far, they have been spotted doing the YMCA and, more recently, they have put on their favorite costumes!

Neighbors have asked us what they’re going to do next. Drivers have stopped on the street to tell us how much they like them. Cars have slowed down and pointed out the window.

We love being a part of this community and love sharing this bit of fun. Last year on Halloween, we had so many people stop by throughout the day to tell us how much they’ve enjoyed the display. People we had never met who wanted to stop and say hello. Throughout the night, trick-or-treaters would pose for pictures in the yard with our boney friends.

We are grateful we could lean into our daughter’s vision of how to celebrate this fun holiday. We are excited with what it has meant to our community and passersby. We love taking the time to do what fills our cups. We’re happy for this Unbinded Life and all it has allowed us to embrace!
