Snowfall in Fall
Well, today was a mid-October day that was anything but “mid.” Last night before bed, I saw the first snow of the season was forecast today for the North Carolina/Tennessee border. This morning, I checked it again and, sure enough, the chances remained favorable for late morning to midday.
So, after wrapping up a couple things, Opal and I looked at each other, pushed our work and homeschool to the afternoon, told the kids to bundle up, and we took a quick impromptu trip into the National Park. The fall colors were so vibrant as made our short drive there and, once we entered, the colors were that much more abundant. It was a breezy 44° and misting rain as we made our way into the Park, and the temps quickly plummeted into the low 30s as we gained elevation and the precipitation quickly transitioned from rain to snow.
There was just so much to love about today! It was fun seeing the anticipation on the kids’ faces as we tucked them into bed last night. It was freeing to be able to rearrange our entire day for no other reason than to make memories. It was an experience like no other joining in the excitement of all the vacationers and locals admiring the beauty of the autumn foliage covered in a white blanket as the snow continued to fall hard all around us. Most importantly, though, we have a deep appreciation for the lessons we’ve learned as Unbinded parents and the lessons we’re instilling in our children by fully embracing this life of freedom!
