When It Rains, It Pours

When it rains, it pours. This has been the cliche of our past few weeks.

It all started about a month ago when our dishwasher wouldn’t drain. It was easy to pass that off as being not such a big deal, and we’ve been washing our dishes by hand ever since.

Then our AC stopped cooling and the pipes froze up. That did seem like a bigger deal, so we called a repairman who confirmed our 30-year old unit has officially bitten the dust.

The good news, the temps are not hot here anymore.

In the midst of waiting for the final word on our AC unit, our daughter called us in a panic because her car wouldn’t accelerate as she coasted through an intersection. The dash was lit up like a Christmas tree (we typically enjoy lights on a Christmas tree but not warning lights on the dashboard). So we rushed to her and had the car towed to the repair shop.

The good news, the repair was not more than the car is worth.

And then, just as we got the car back from the shop, accepted we would need a new AC by spring, and found we don’t mind hand-washing dishes, the hot water stopped being hot. After five days of no hot water, we were finally able to have a repairman come out to confirm, we need a new water heater.

The good news, he was able to make a repair to get us by.

We are sure most of you know us well enough to know, this is not a sympathy post. We share this as a way to pull back the curtain on this Unbinded Life. We share this because while all things good and fun can bring us together, what we share in common more than anything else is the not-so-good and the hard. So often on social media, we only see the rainbows when we know there had to be a storm before the rainbow appeared.

This is real life and is the life we are living. We all know, there are good times and not as good of times. There are hard times and there are not as hard of times. Life is messy and unpredictable.

For us, this has not been a test of faith but an opportunity to practice it—a chance to offer praise during the storm. Because the good news is, the same God who makes the rain knows our needs, too. The truth is, when it rains it pours, but as promised, the rainbow is never far behind.
