Cheer Dreams Come True
We are now proud parents of a collegiate cheerleader! To see the work and dedication Olivia has given this sport brings us to tears. To know the setbacks, the hustle, and the determination she has shown, that makes us the most proud.
Olivia has been cheering her entire life—from carrying pom-poms as a toddler to attending cheer camps throughout elementary. You could see the look in her eyes as she watched the older girls jump, tumble, and recite every cheer. She knew she wanted that to one day be her.
As a seventh grader, she joined the cheer squad at her middle school where her passion only grew stronger. She became an incredible base and found her forever sport.
At the end of eighth grade, she eagerly awaited and prepared for tryouts for the high school team. She upped her tumbling classes and worked tirelessly on her skills. That week proved to be both exciting and unexpected as the final day of cheer tryouts was also the last day anyone would attend in-person classes for nearly a year.
As for so many, Spring of 2020 brought many obstacles, and she persevered. She made the high school team and cheered her heart out, masked, on the sidelines for the first semester of her freshman year.
In December of 2020, we moved to North Carolina, and once again, was facing uncertainty as she not only moved across the country but was also joining a new team.
She showed more strength and endurance as she joined the team and was elected co-captain of the varsity team her senior year.
As a sophomore, she told us cheer is what she loves most and pleaded we reenroll her in tumbling classes. She shared her plan to cheer throughout high school and to get the skills needed to pursue collegiate cheer. There was no doubt she meant it and would see it all the way through.
Since then she has worked tirelessly with her tumbling coach, she has attended every cheer prep clinic offered at the university, and she has taken to heart everything she learned from her high school team and coaches.
We know the smell of Icy Hot after a long day of practice. We have seen the bruises when the team is learning a new stunt. And we have held her close at the heartbreak of sitting out due to injury. We have watched her work harder than ever and we now see her dreams unfolding.
We are proud of her. For what she has done and the person she is. We are always here to cheer on our cheerleader!
Go CATS!
